50 States Block Swap

I am kind of feeling naughty for posting these pictures, but chinarockfishakm said it was okay, so proceed at your own risk!  I know I love to see what others are doing and it provides creative inspiration for me along the way. 

So here is what I have so far!  Are you sure you want to proceed?  Really, it seems so far that most of my blocks will have slight discrepancies from each other due to the fabric so it will still be a surprise when you receive.


Colorado!

This is where I live now.  I was not raised here, but moved here a few years ago-2004.  I went rafting down the Colorado River out of Glenwood Springs a few years ago.  I think it was 2005.  It looked a lot like this fabric which is pretty remarkable.  The blocks do look better in person, they are not as grainey as they appear and they are square!  I promise.  That goes for all of them.

Montana!
For Montana I found this great center fabric! I love the pictures of the mountains and the animals. What made it even better, is that it is from the "Big Sky Country" line from SouthSeas Imports. "Big Sky Country" is a nickname for Montana. How perfect is that! The background fabric is Moose Lake from Exclusively Quilters Collection.  A couple of summers ago, i was lucky enough to get to go to Yellowstone (which is in Wyoming and a little of Montana) and up into a smidgen of Montana.  This fabric reminded me of our trip-which was pretty cool.  The sky here does seem huge.  It fills one horizon west to the other horizon east- and it seems to go farther up (as into the sky itself) as well.  It is absolutely beautiful. 




Florida: which is one of the blocks we are doing on our own...
This is my Florida block for the 50 States Quilt. I chose the dolphins because when I was young we would go to my Great Uncle William's cabin in the Bay outside of Fort Walton, FL. He had a really long pier that went out into the bay where you could see dolphins swim by all the time. I liked the orange batik because it reminds me of sun rays, warmth, and oranges.



So hopefully, since I went first you won't all think they stink.  I am beginning to have a little anxiety but I would rather it be in the beginning when I can change things than later, so there you go!

It is funny how this swap catches the minds of others, I started posting about it on my blog and how i was stuck for Oregon, Utah, and North Carolina and someone from North Carolina that had this awesome fabric sent it to me!  I am going to send her fabric, but she didn't want it before she sent.  Isn't that neat?

alright i have 4 of my blocks done so far but i dont have too much to say about them quite yet

New Jersey - since i live close to the beach, i immediately though of the jersey shore for my theme and i knew i had the sea shell fabric already.  the blue just reminds me of a nice blue sky


Pennsylvania - ok ignore the little threads on there to begin with lol... i didnt go with a specific focal fabric.. but more of used the whole block as the focus... pennsylvania, the amish, so what would be better then some nice amish solid color fabrics!


Delaware - wellll delaware didnt have too much going on that i could find besides being the first state which is why i got the american flag fabric.  later i ended up finding that fabric with the cute little blue chickens on it which fit rather well since theyr state bird was the blue hen chicken...theyr just so cute 


Connecticut - i wanted to go with a nautical theme and i just thought that ship fabric was adorable! it also had little anchors and stars but only little pieces made it into the star points.  i thought it looked nice with the white background and blue and white just reminds me of boats anyway

AAH! I want that chicken fabric!

I am from Maryland (right next door to Delaware - and you're right, there's not much going for it ) and my mom has chickens so i love just about anything with chickens!

OMG my RI fabric is sailboats and seagulls! Its alot darker than that though. RI is the ocean state, plus from living there a million years sailboats are a common thing there and the anchor is on the flag.Hmmmm

i dont think it matters too much if fabric for any of the other states are similar, its not too surprising that states near each other are known for the same things lol

yea, i have to imagine that any state on the coast is known for something nautical/oceany/watery/etc.

anyone seen any cattail/marsh/wetlands fabric in their travels?
