Here's my second real project with hand embroidery.  I embroidered the design first, from the Florid Fauna series.
 
The satin on the moon took forever, but I like how it came out.

And then turned them into cork backed coasters. 

The cork is nice because it helps with heat and won't scratch anything on your table, and they're sturdy enough to actually feel like coasters.  It's a bit of a struggle to get them under your sewing machine, but i managed.

They make a really nice gift set too, all you need is a little matching bit of ribbon.
