Also, I'm in Wichita KS, I saw someone else was from Kansas? It gets so annoying, how everyone who finds out you're from KS when you're out of town or whatever has to make some reference to Dorothy or OZ...but then, of course, I have to admit to being a huge OZ fan.

Personally, I am one of those book "pursists" - I'm not much of a fan of the original movie, for lots of reasons, but the one that drives me nuts is that the original "slippers" were silver, and NOT ruby! I like Return to OZ because it was darker and included lots of characters from the original 14 books in the series.
I enjoy Wicked and Son of A Witch - to me, they do a good job of keeping with the darker side and the possible politics of Baum & the era they were written in even.

Another thing I love is the artwork in the original books - who ever gets me will end up with some kind of art print I'm sure!

Oh!! I am so glad someone else likes "Return to OZ"!!! I thought I was all alone! And the books are so beautifully written and illustrated......wh ere did he come up with such unusual concepts for the time?

I had never read the books they sound like they would be good I love the oringinal oz movie I am from topeka and I get were is oz all the time so who ever I get will get a lot from ks

When I tell people my name I get, "Dorothy? Dorothy from Kansas?" or "And where's Toto?" or "Dorothy, do you live on the Yellow Brick Road?" like it's the first time I've heard it. (I actually did have a dog named Toto when I was a teenager and I had a lot of fun with that one, but I was born in Texas, an Army brat.)

But I can't fault people for their 'originality,' at least they have fond memories about it and sometimes even end up telling me about the first time they saw it or the ritual of watching it during the yearly showing on TV. It's timeless, magical and will always be special to a lot of people.

P.S. I have a couple of pairs of sparkly red shoes, but I also have a pair of sparkly silver ones like the original book Dorothy wore, which were a big hit at the Winkie Convention!

I also love the artwork of the original books, and I know I read them as a kid but I don't remember them too well. I think I'll have to check out Return to Oz to get a look at some of those other characters from the books. I wonder if it's easy to rent. Did anyone see the latest Oz-inspired movie on the sci-fi channel? I can't remember the name of it, but it had Zooey Daschenel. My big love is still the Judy Garland movie, though. I can't help it, I guess I'm a sucker for Hollywood schmaltz!
