This was just a piece of light-colored softwood, already cut into this shape. I drew out the words, traced it onto the wood, burned it into the wood, and then stained it. I wanted it to be useful, instead of just "wall art" so I added little hooks to be able to hang keys and attached a little piece of metal that I don't know the name of to be able to hang it.
This if my first woodburning. You can see on the loop connecting the lowercase l and y that I messed up, and at the top right of the lowercase L.

Woodburning's a fun challenge and I couldn't even tell that you'd messed anything up. Good job! And I'm always a sucker for funtional art.

Very nice first try!!!  I have got to try this out.  May I ask, you only stain it in the end?  Nothing more? (No other type of covering I mean)

Flyingchair - thank you Smiley Hah I'm glad you couldn't tell. It just seems to obvious to me, but I guess that's cuz I know it's there. On the loop, I did this a while ago, so I can't remember for sure, but I think I left the tool on the wood too long.
Jinjeet - Well, I used a spray varnish or lacquer or whatever it's called after I stained it. As far as what you're SUPPOSED to do, I don't really know. I'm not sure if I answered your question though.

Yes thank you thekster,  That is what I was asking.  (I guess I need more caffeine). You've been very helpful.  DTW I love that script.

What does DTW mean? And thank you; it's the first time I've actually liked something I've written (drawn?)

I love it, I recently did my first wood burning too.  Though I'm not disappointed with it (though it could be better), yours looks much better.  I did use the wrong tip for what I was doing, so that wasn't helpful to me.  I hope I can do something that good at some point.
