This project is up to the grout stage so I won't bore you with the minute details. Just gonna post up some of the progress shots. This is to the stage of grouting, tomorrow I hope.

The materials used:
silver wire, crash glass (tempered glass), glue metal ball chain, clear cut glass, clear marbles, sheet music and mirror.

For tons more WIP pictures you can check Flickr set

Hope to post images this week of the grouted completed guitar. As always though ideas, comments, suggestions and questions always welcome.  Smiley

Yowza!  That's really fantastic!  I love all the layers and the subtlety of the sheet music through the glass and the repeat of the circle theme.  I've a couple of questions:
1. Is the crash glass rescued from a crash?
2. I've only used tile/grout for the purposes of tiling bathrooms, floors and fireplaces and so have only used mastic and thin set cement to adhere them.  What do you use that's clear so that the sheet music is visible?

my husband is a musician so at first as he was looking over my shoulder he exclaimed "OH, what are they gonna do to the guitar!" but he was won over quickly as was I. This is a beautiful piece of art! Great job!!!
I'm curious what your plan is for grout, are you going to do something for high contrast or for subtlety? Just curious --either way it will continue to be stunning!!!

Thank you all so very much! Love to get feedback, and input on mosaics. Smiley

The crash glass I get is from reposed cars, and wrecks. You can however get it from any glass shop that sells it, and break it yourself.

For glass projects I have used silicone in the past, but for this project I used MAC glue. I am IN LOVE with MAC glue! Unless you are working on a vertical, then it is back to silicone.

my husband is a musician so at first as he was looking over my shoulder he exclaimed "OH, what are they gonna do to the guitar!" but he was won over quickly as was I. This is a beautiful piece of art! Great job!!!

LOL! I am glad your hubby is not upset. Smiley

I'm thinking of doing a gray grout, but then red has also been rolling around. Any suggestions?

Thank you all again! You rock!  Smiley

Thanks for answering my questions!  I guess you can buy anything, eh?  Even broken glass from car windows.  Great way to keep it out of the landfill, I say!

Do you have a recommendation for silicone in something other than the caulking tube?

The Lexel comes in hand held tubes that are easy to use. Some people also use the GEII silicone. I've used them both, and prefer the Lexel. Both can be bought at any home improvement store for about $4 - $5 each.  Smiley
