I bought a really ugly, cheap lamp at the Fields store last night and decided to make it into a cute little goth lamp for my boyfriend's lair.  I'm whipping up a demo for it for The Domestic Gothess Project so I'll probably post a tutorial here for anyone that wants it later tonight.  What do you guys think?

Cheap Ugly Lamp

Voila!

Ta da!

Tutorial!  The Quick and Dirty of it all!

Step One:

Take the lampshade off and cover the socket, I used a plastic sandwich bag and an elastic band to secure it.  You don't want paint in or one the socket.

Step Two:

Spray paint the base a Matte Black and let dry really well.  You may need to do two coats.

Step Three:

Use a fabric stencil and sponge paint the image (We use skull and crossbones)   We did four around the lampshade after measuring it all out.  Don't add water tot he paint if you're using acrylic like we are, you need it thick or it will run under the stencil.

There you go!  When it's dry, you can just assemble it and you've got your new (Redone) lamp!  Easy as Milk!

I really like it.  My first thought at the 'after' picture was that the base looks like a bomb in an old cartoon.  It just needs a wick!

Haha!  That's awesome because I'm actually planning on making one that looks like the Bomb guy from the Mario brothers game.  I'm going to use the same paint and add some feet and a little wind up key on the back!
