I made this... Captions under pictures!

First we start with the paint swatches. Go to walmart or where ever pretend  you want to paint something...

cut off all of the letters if need be

cut them into squares or other pieces

I used a thin piece of cardboard( you can use card stock too) to glue my pieces too because a thin piece of paper probably wouldn't work well at all. I used white pastel to color the background then I rubbed it in with a paper towel.

start gluing  the pieces. Use glue sparingly. the
pieces will curl up a little, but thats ok.

half way done, the edges are curled, still that's ok because you are able to work quickly.

I made sure that the glue wasn't sticking out and for a few hours I placed another piece of cardboard and something heavy over the piece and then they flattened out well.

The finished product. I cut out the dragon flies then sectioned them up and put some metallic powders on them. I think this worked out rather well how about you? questions, comments, concerns, ideas??? All are welcome! thanks for looking!

Wow! I would have never thought to do something like that. I might have to give that a try. My apartment has waaaay too many blank walls and the project seems simple enough to do one lazy afternoon. Thanks for posting! Cheesy

I've always loved stained glass & mosaics but felt intimidated by all of the tile/glass cutting. This I would try!

It's beautiful and inspiring!!

You can't go wrong with dragonflies.  I love the shades of blue you chose, too.

that is so awesomely gorgeous!  i've always wanted to try mosaics, but it seems like a lot to have to cut tiles and mix grout...  this way is just as pretty and much much easier!  thank you so much for sharing your technique!

that's delightful Cheesy  I took a color theory class last year and had to do a self portrait out of paint chips, it was quite interesting, but I think your dragonflies are much nicer Cheesy

That's a really neat idea! I saw an exhibit at my state fair, where an artist used paint swatches to create journals. I think she wove the strips to make larger pages and used the color names as part of the artwork.

This is awesome!
I've thought about finding some way to use paint swatches before because they just come in so many beautiful colors.  This is a great idea for them.
Awesome explanation of how you did it too.
The piece is beautiful.  Great work.   Cheesy
