Easy Waffle Stitch Fingerless Gloves

Inez and I did a personal swap and she had requested a knit hat.  I had about 80 yards left from the skein of yarn after knitting the hat, so I decided that I needed to knit up fingerless gloves to match.  I made up this pattern to utilize all of the yarn.  







Gauge: 5 stitches/inch

Materials: 80-100 yards of worsted weight wool (gloves shown knit with about 80 yards of 100purewool.com Merino Worsted 3 ply)

Needle: US 7 (4.5 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge  (I knit mine with US 8, but I knit them very tightly - I'd say anywhere from a US 6-8 would work for this pattern, but check gauge)

These gloves are knit flat and seamed up the side.  They knit up quickly, and really look more complicated than they are!

As a newbie knitter I have to thank you for posting a simple pattern like this.
I assume they could be made longer too right? Just keep going in the pattern?

Thanks for the feedback!  These are a perfect beginner pattern when you're ready to venture away from garter stitch!  You can easily make them longer by adding in rows in the stockinette portion or adding in repeats in the waffle stitch portion.  You also can easily adjust the pattern to make it wider or more narrow or to use a different yarn - just add or subtract stitches in multiples of 4.

good god, these sound incredibly simple to make! (knitting retard speaking here)

i've only seen gloves like these knitted in the round, which i fail to comprehend .. i've been meaning to ask my grandmother (knitting savant as far as i'm concerned) to teach me how to knit in the round and w/ four needles and all that jazz, but never have.
