For my apparel construction 3 class, we had to make garments for different age groups. Out of the four (toddler, elementary, maternity, elderly) the maternity turned out to be my favorite.
I designed, drafted and sewed this dress. Too bad I'm not pregnant (JUST KIDDING!hah). Anyway here are the pictures

it can be tied in the front or back

pleats for the growing belly

Wow! this is great! the fabric is lovely and the dress looks both cute (not too many maternity clothes are cute!) and comfortable.
I wish I had one like that when I was pregnant!

Oh pretty! I love it! It looks like you could make it work for nursing too maybe.

This is a great style.  One thing I hated when being pg was the lack of style, comfort and colour in maternity clothes.  also the patterns to make outfits were dull and boring and mostly unflattering.
If I'd been on here 2 1/2 years ago I'd be paying you to make me one!

Thanks again. I'm glad everyone likes it. I haven't been around pregnant women that much so I wasn't sure about what features are needed, but I'm glad that I was able to come up with something appealing and wearable.

If anyone's interested I could make more with different fabrics or w/o pleats for non-maternity. I'm really poor (darn college tuition) right now so I need the work! hehe.

Very cute!  I agree that it's sometimes hard to find cute maternity clothes that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.  If you make any to sell, I'd just say, make sure you use a fabric stains come out of well.  I was always dropping food on my big belly that I wasn't used to being there!  Ha!  Also, that washes well since I tended to get by on the minimum wardrobe and would wear the same things often.  Don't I make pregnancy sound so fun?

I really like you made it attractive as you are growing bigger!  Great job!

This is a really gorgeous dress.  I am pregnant, and poor... otherwise I'd see if you could make me one!  But.. I was wondering if anyone knows where I can find an appropriate tutorial for this type of dress? Thanks.

I would try to find a wrap dress pattern you like, then just add on to one of the panels to do the pleating. I had to do a lot of alterations to get this pattern, so I think it would be kind of hard to do a tutorial where people would be making their own.
