Hello everyone!

I just finished up this quilt yesterday, and I have to say, I think it is my absolute favorite!  It started off innocently enough, I wanted to practice embroidery, so I thought it would be fun to make Ariel's woefully underappreciated sisters.  Then, once I had those, I thought I might as well make their names.  Then, I thought it would be a shame to just leave them in a box somewhere, so I might as well use them to practice drafting some irregular quilt blocks (not sure if there is a name for that or not).  So now I have this nifty baby blanket, yay!

I always thought Ariel's sisters should get more credit, I mean, they seem like pretty cool chicks, just maybe a little less adventuresome.  They would be just as hot as Ariel, if only they'd lose the ugly haircuts!  So here is my daughters of triton in a sea of green quilt (yeah for TLM and the Beatles all in one quilt!):

And here are some closeups in proper order with (imaginary) musical accompaniment:

Ah ha ha

Ah ha ha

Ah ha ha

Ah ha ha

Ah ha ha

AH HA HA !!

Thanks for indulging me!  Let me know what  you think!

1.  This rocks!!!

2.  Where did you find the pictures of the sisters?

3.  Once I tried the irregular quilt blocks and was so frustrated and depressed that I threw it all away and cried myself to sleep that night.  I am SSSOOOO impressed with your skills!!!

4.  The colours are great!!

2.  Where did you find the pictures of the sisters?

Well, I wasn't exaggerating when I said they were all just ariel with bad haircuts, they really do all have the exact same body and face!  Here is the picture that I used to copy them from, though:

Thank you for all of the kind replies!  I really didn't expect this much attention.

Edit: Acutally, here is the sketch I did in case anyone finds it useful.  It's REALLY rough, but, eh.  Click for full size

This is EPIC.  I once went through this phase when I was in preschool where I would watch The Little Mermaid every single day and, during this "phase," I developed an unhealthy crush on Prince Eric and an increased appreciation/wonder about those sisters of Ariel.  I totally agree with your thought that they just didn't get a fair amount of screen time.  Seriously.

Nice work! At first I thought it was just a really cool looking quilt (that I wish I had the skills to make) with some mermaids on it, then I scrolled down and the childhood memories just came flooding back! The fact that you put Ariel's forgotten sisters on it makes it at least 10 times more cool.

We used to listen to the soundtrack in the car when I was younger, and the funny part about this song was that they would play all the fanfare and the sisters would sing but it would end very abruptly "she's our sister, Ari- *GASP!!!*" and then move directly on to "Part of Your World" It just always struck me as odd Smiley

I wish I knew how to do irregular quilt blocks! That is amazing, and I love your homage to the sisters- you should do some more embroideries of "forgotten" Disney characters  Cheesy I'd love to see more.

LOVE LOVE LOVE IT! My sis and I love TLM and this is just so much better than the standard fabrics that are out there.

I made a Little Mermaid shower curtain. I wish I had pics... Cry If Craftster has taught me one thing, it's to always document your work!

Thanks so much for sharing. I like this a lot and admire the work that put into it.

This quilt is soooo awesome! TLM was my favorite movie when I was young and ever since I saw the title of this post I've been singing the song in my head...

Great job on the embroidery by the way, this isn't a craft I can do so I'm always super impressed when someone manages to create something as lifelike as this! (well as lifelike as animated characters can be  Smiley) The piecing on the quilt looks really amazing too!

I love your irregular blocks!  Did you lay the whole thing out first or did you just pick pieces & stitch?

I can tell I'm getting old by the fact that I was never into 'The Little Mermaid' - it was just something my littler cousins were obsessed with when it came out.....

I planned each block on graph paper before I cut and sewed.
