Painting on a Purse???

hey there

So i bought this purse at salvation army for a dollar. The front flap on it is the part that i would like to paint. It is made out of some sort of pleathery material. Is it possible to paint on this kind of material? If so what paints would i have to use. And is there any sort of special coating i could put on it so the paint will stay put? I have a really awesome idea for it i just am not sure about the paint. i hope someone will be able to answer this question.

are you sure it's not real leather?  some of those slinky metal (not sure of the proper term) purses are old, quality stuff.
if you put a bead of water on it and it sinks in, it's leather.  but if it doesn't, it might still be leather, just with a shinier coating.

well, anyway, any paint that works on plastic should work if it's really fake leather.  like, paint pens springs to mind...
if it's real leather, i have seen people use acrylic paints for that.

Hi:
My english is not realy good but I gonna try help you.
Before paint it you need clean it with nail polish remove.
Put a few in a cotton .
For paint it you can use spray for paint iceskates. I dont know the name in english but I did before something like that and is working.

yeah but don't use something strong like that if it's real leather.  so i hope you can find out...

 Dont worry about nail polish remove, is not so strong.
 I always use it for  the leather. Is for clean it before use the paint.
 Im working of wardrobe mistress from 15 years ago, and I did a lot of theater workshops.
 And never had problem for use it
