Quilted Scrappy Fabric Boxes

Here are a few scrappy fabric boxes I made for the IYP swap.  I skimmed a magazine that had something similar to these and went off what I remembered and fudged the rest.  I played around with the size a bit since I was aiming for something to house my partner's beautiful yarns

I love these and am glad they got their own post!  They look both rigid and soft, which is so attractive.  Of course, mimiw is a genius with matching up fabrics for patchwork which makes her things something you can look and look at and still find a new favorite piece (I know, I have a few... ahem).

I wonder.... I think I know which magazine you speak of - like a $13 quilt magazine - quick and easy projects of some sort?  I really love how you made these - they look loooooads better than the ones in the magazine!

mimiw - one question - having possibly made some from the same magazine - how did you get your corners so crisp?  Mine were good but certainly not as sharp as yours...  I did put a covered piece down in the bottom to keep it together nicely and all....
I just keep thinking about yours - so sharp.  I know, I am a queen of boxes!  I can't help it - I love functional!

Did you use interfacing to make them stand up so nicely?

There is a layer of craft fuse interfacing on both the inside and outside.  There is also a layer of quilt batting sandwiched in there.  All in all I think they are pretty rigid for fabric.  Maybe one more layer of interfacing though...

Yup, that is the magazine and the price tag is exactly why I didn't get it!  I did make some notes as I was messing around with them so now I have it down to a science!

I pressed them    I actually have made a few others since then and have put a very small seam allowance down the side and sewn it.  I really like that as well since it won't come undone.  I didn't put anything in the bottom of mine, just tacked the corners down.
