My daughter's Girl Scout troop was having an international night. Her country was Germany and we needed a costume. I did a little research (not knowing anything about german traditional clothing) and came up with this dress-or what they call a dirndl (anyone know how that is pronounced?). It is the first clothing I have ever sewn without a pattern. All the fabrics are thrifted from other items-the green from curtains, the black from a skirt, and the white from a sheet. It took me about 2 hours to make it. It isn't perfect and not exactly made like the traditional ones (she hates things around her arms so I didn't put any elastic in the sleeves for example) but she was satisfied with it and it was a hit at the troop meeting.

thanks for looking

congrats, 2 hours really isn't a lot of time for a complete dress with apron and top, looks great too
i even managed to find an audio-file of it being pronounced :-)

It looks great! Amazing that it only took you two hours for that, whereas our school's folk dance costumes took about ten hours (EACH!) and only look slightly better/authentic. Bravo!
