Shocked This is the first dress Ive ever sewn!

I based it off of Simplicity 3541, but made some changes here and there. Being a big girl, its often about impossible to find cute dresses that actually fit. Why does the clothing industry think that if your a plus size gal, you're still gonna have small girls? How in the world does that make sense!

Here is the whole thing:

And here is the fabric in more detail(this more accurately depicts the colors):

These are both 100% cotton knit. So they are nice and light for summer. Also, I couldn't find brown knit anywhere. So, I scored yellow knit at Ben Franklin for 99 cents a yard and went to town with rit dye. It just happend to come out the perrrrrrfect color. YAY! Comments and criticisms welcome, I'm still a no0b at sewing. Thanks for looking!

that looks great! Oh my gosh I never would have known that you dyed that brown fabric yourself. If I had only been looking at the pictures, I would have thought that it was manufactured that way. You did a great job. I love your dress.

Congrats on your dress!  You did a lovely job.  I even noticed how well the fabric design matches on the center front and where the sleeves are sewn to the bodice.  Keep up this good work and you will have a lovely "custom" wardrobe!

it's a beautiful dress!  You did a great job Smiley

The clothing industry is all butt backwards lol, they think if you're tiny you must have double D's it'll never make sense to me.  (but I thank them in a way because clothing frustration is what got me sewing in the first place!)

I have small girls. Its the exact opposite when it comes to bras. I'm huge and my girls are quite petite, I can rarely go to a store and find a bra in my size.

Really cute dress!!!  I am currently working on a new wardrobe for myself.  I have been messing around with altering patterns to fit me, and I have found this book Fit For Real People by Patti Palmer & Marta Alto really helpful.  I keep renewing it from my library, which I kinda feel guilty about.  You might want to check it out.  Although it looks like you did fine without it.

Very nice - I like the fabric.  Great job on dyeing (sp?) the yellow to brown.  I would have never thought of that!
