Well it's very hard to tell from the photos but you might find that it's actually knotted - embroidery floss type stuff tends to be used in knotted jewellery and what looks like cord with floss around it might actually be a type of knotted cord. Try googling "macrame" or "friendship bracelets" and see what you get.

Do you have a bigger picture of the bracelet in question? Where did you see it originally?

Hi!

Check out this site.  http://www.geocities.com/hbernb/  (Heather's Friendship Bracelets).  She has TONS of different design pattern sets, and directions for them!  (Be forewarned, some of the links on the front page don't work, but there's still a lot of functioning ones!)

I was never one for following patterns myself.  I like experimenting!  Give it a shot - you might be happy with what you come up with.  If not, it's an inexpensive loss.

Have fun - hope the link helps you! Cheesy

thank you guys for your suggestions. i have checked out that website before and i have googled friendship bracelets but this bracelet is not just embroidery floss. its a thick piece of cord in the middle that is then stitched with the string. Unfortunately i dont have a bigger picture or a better description so i think i might be ready to give up. thanks anyway!

I think you can do something like this by sewing your embroidery floss to a piece of water-soluble stabilizer. Then you wash away the stabilizer and all that is left is the string. I've seen this done before, but I don't remember the source.
