i love this bag. it's my new favorite.

really easy to make, took me about a half hour, but i did do some seam-ripping, so it might not take you that long.

before (a mess of pillowcase on the floor after a rigorous day of garage saling):

after (an awesome summer bag with a birdie applique, i'm a whore for ravens):

the obligatory action shot (ignore the gross pj pants!):

what do you think?

(NOW...with a tutorial on page 2!)

thanks! Smiley
i found it at a garage sale for 50 cents.
and it came with a queen sized flat sheet and another pillowcase.

i think i'll make a dress out of the rest!

we'll see though, i haven't ever made a dress before....

I love that! The bird applique is the perfect finishing touch.

I'm really getting into recrafting with items I already have or find at yard sales... I'm going to borrow your idea for some linens of my own that are in need of attention.

I've never been lost, but I will admit to being confused for several weeks.

Oh my goodness, I'm almost certain that my parents had that exact sheet set when I was growing up!  I always hated the print, but it certainly made a cute purse!  Great work!

I think we had those sheets.  My folks had that pattern in blue and yellow and I had those.  They look great as a bag, as sheets not so good.  Great job!

Awesome use of a pillowcase!  It reminds me of something you'd see at American Eagle...and pay WAAYYYYY maore than 50 cents!

Very cool! I remember once in elementary school my best friend and I went to the skating rink everyday and one day to bribe us into doing something different her mom offered to help us make dresses out of some cool 70's pillow cases. The bribe worked and we got made some sweet dresses. I wish I could find a picture of thos.
