Okay, I have IBS, which i ignore for the majority of the time, and that isn't exactly the best idea in the world... Recently i've been having a pretty rough flare-up. So I've been ordered by el doctero to eat food that is more bland than I have been eating, at least for a little while until my stomach settles. According to him, i need to avoid dairy, spices, lipids, etc. (and also to find some stress-relievers). Being from Louisiana, bland really isn't in my vocabulary, and it's DEFINITELY not in my cooking.

So I was wondering if anyone had any recipes for food that isn't overly fatty, spicy, or covered in cheese that is still digestible. I tried an Amy's cheeseless pizza tonight, and apparently even that was too much! *sigh*

PLEASE help me! I don't want to eat saltines until i die!

That's rough!

I'm not sure exactly what the specific restrictions of IBS are (lipids = fat, right?), but this Web site might be of use: http://www.fatfreevegan.com/
The originator's (I think she's from Louisiana, too) Web site is http://blog.fatfreevegan.com/
There are probably a lot of recipes you could adapt from those and change the spices as needed.

Can you eat fruit and tomatoes? If you can, you might be able to use salsas (using the term loosely) for flavor - say, tomato + avocado, mango + avocado, etc. without adding a lot of spice.

Do fresh herbs count as spices? Putting some fresh cilantro, basil or parsley in a dish adds a lot of flavor.

My DH has the same problem, and here are my flare-up menus:

1.  Veg soup - any unseasoned broth with chopped carrots, potatoes, and rice stewed in a crock pot for many hours.  Not bad with a little salt and bread on the side, but way bland.
2.  Veg "pot pie" - add flour to above soup to thicken, line an oven proof bowl with day old bread, dump in stew, cover with another piece of bread, and toast it.
3.  Rice, rice and more rice. Mushy stewed in soups is best.
4.  mock avgolemono soup - veg broth, lemon juice, orzo

It's not much, but it seems to work.

Thanks! Although my flare-up has passed (thank God!) I'm bookmarking this for future issues. That soup sounds like it'd really do the trick. By the time i felt better, the taste of crackers was starting to make me nauseated cause i'd eaten so many! haha.

1)Black beans and rice-bland I guess but still uber tasty.
2)Gnocci-potato pasta.my favorite
3)arroz con leche vegan style
4)julienned carrots,sprouts,sliced cucumber,lettuce(or spinach),red cabbage marinated in a little vinegar,sugar and soy sauce-dont know if that's ok Undecided-mushrooms,avocado and tomato wrapped up in a pita with vegan mayonnaise

I can sympathize with you about the saltines only with me it was rice.

I also have IBS and came to this forum hoping I could find some new meal ideas because meat and fatty foods make me so sick. The problem is being a good southern girl means the only way I know how to cook veggies is to batter and pan fry.

That veg soup sounds good especially with Fall just around the corner. I am looking over the blog too.
