So it has been... well.. forever since I lurked around Craftster and just as long since I did anything.. well.. crafty... the trend was finally broken and I just finished my new (to me) chandelier. I had a friend of a friend keep an eye out on an old chandelier for me.. he finally found one, it was a a bit of a sad shape.... Luckily most of the crystals were still there, just in need of cleaning. I took the whole thing apart, sanded it, cleaned it, primed it then painted it with Rustoleum spray paint. The candle covers still need to be replaced - I have not ordered them yet... and yeah.. there are now bulbs in all the sockets Smiley I also rewired it from a hardwire, to a swag light.. it resides in my living room.

before:

box of part and pieces...

then after in my favorite fun colors!

it felt awesome to do a create project again! Cheesy

I love it!!

I always see all these old, ugly chandeliers at tags sales & such... and I feel like there has to be SOMETHING I can do with them... but inspiration never struck.

Maybe this weekend I'll go out and find one to try it out on... though I'm not sure about the rewiring you did- is it something you already know how to do, or did you find a book/tutorial on it?

I normally hate chandeliers for the main reason of how yours looked before hahah gold plated, looks blah and boring. But I would hang your revamp in my house!!

How many times did it take to spray it so it came out even looking? (We're about to tackle some of our furniture with Rustoleum spray paint haha!

NyteRayn, I knew how to rewire before I tackled this, but it is seriously easy. You can google it or hit hardware stores (local more then Home Depot - greater chance of finding someone to advise) and get all you need.

I will post a bit later with some more info if you like.

Alice, I took the lamp apart, sanded it lightly to remove the electroplating, then wiped it with a tack cloth.. then primed it with the Rustoleum primer. Let it dry 24 hours, then did 2 light coats on the pieces, letting them dry 24 hours (this was a test in patience as I wanted it done.. well.. NOW. hehe).. That worked well for this application. I always like to sand, then  prime (helps give the paint something to cling to - and cover better) before I take the actual paint to it.

thanks for all the compliments.. I love this thing.. and now want to do more Cheesy

and beautiful.. this is hanging in  my little 1 bedroom apt.. course, my tastes are a bit eclectic (hence the curtains with twinkle lights behind them in the background) but I say.. if I like it.. try it! Cheesy

Thanks! I'll take a look- or maybe I can find one that doesn't need rewiring! Smiley

OH. MY. GOD.  this chandelier is really awesome.  your color choices totally modernize it and gave this chandelier an entirely new look.  nice revamping.  kind of reminds me of something i might see in a free people shop (if you've never seen, then check it out, if only for the way they decorate the shop!) or something that might be sold in urban outfitters.
(and i am loving those little lights behind your curtains!)
