::hops on messenger bag band wagon::

i used this "original Hawaiian" dress (which the tag says is made in korea) to make this. the dress was incredibly small at the waste, but oddly long. so i took advantage of the fabric, woo!

i used the jordy bag tute for the bottom part, and the rest i just kinda winged it. and for some reason i always ended up with extra width in some areas. also the pocket on the outside has an identical one on the inside, as i sewed them in at the same time, so i wouldnt have to tear open seams. i dont recommend doing something that stupid btw. it just turned my stitches wonky. im just lazy... sooo on with the bag!

its all double fused and whatnot, and the strap is extra firm as i used heat and bond for it. kind of wish i had bond the whole bag in it.

Cute bag.  I like the vintage tropical flower look of it.  It looks like it can hold a lot.

The fabric really is beautiful - and so vibrant.
Very well done OmJane!

Hihihi, I would never ever thought of sewing two pockets at once Wink well, you said why not to do! Great idea though!

im totally in love with this fabric, the tag says 100% cotton, but ive never felt anything like it. its got a wonderful texture. kind of odd for a dress, but not for a bag!

I love this bag, what pattern did you use?  My daughter is starting high school and wants a homemade messenger bag.

i didnt use a pattern. i just winged it really. although i took advice from the jordy bag to get the basic shape (i didnt use the same lining technique, as it didnt make sense to me exactly... to i folded down my top edges towards one another and sewed, left one side open and sewed the flap right into it. pretty simple really. all squares and rectangles.

Great bag!  I love the fabric!  I love that it has that pocket inside and out.  I'm a sucker for lots of pockets and compartments
