Washing Machine BBQ

no, seriously. it's takend the best part of today, we still gave no coals or grill for it but we are ALL proud.

I have no pics of me and my sister getting the drum out of the housing... but here I am trying to get the plastic stuff off the drum.





now, how do you suppose we get the concrete off without a good socket set and an engineer home (4 hours until James's return from work...)
I know! let's hit it with a spade!



nope. spade does NOT work. my wrists hurt.



finally, James returned homw with a decent socket set and some nice strong arms.

BBQ!!! now all we need are fire bricks to raise the coals a little, charcoal briquettes and a circular grill.



(I also ended up with a rather large glass bowl which will inevitably end up finding its way into the kitchen.)

woot. big up for recycling.

dang I ache. and my husband has yet more reason to believe that I am totally and completely mental.

A large glass bowl from the washing machine?  Really.... do you have any pictures of it?  I'm really curious about that!  And awsome job with the recycling.  Everyone in  mine and my husbands family and everyone know, I'm sure, thinks I'm insane because I do the same stuff lol.

We have one of these we use as a firepit too... its sits on a tire rim.  It was a beast to get out, we dropped it from the bucket of our tractor a few times   Kudos to you for your perseverence!!

Well, since buying something to raise the coals a bit (6 shelving brackets, some galvanised chicken wire and a pizza tray), and buying some coals I can vouch that this is a sucess. a REALLY FRICKING SCARY sucess.
I managed to ignite a packet of sausages. not just burn them like one would on a stove, I mean I made them burn. it took over an hour from the coals going white for it to become a heat that I could cook on rather than just incinerating stuff.

it does work though. chucks out a massive amount of heat too.

That is so ingenious.  I love the idea.  You must have a ton of patience to have struggled with that to get it out and make it usable.  Kudos on a job well done.
