My CSA starts next week! I'm so excited.  Has anyone else started theirs yet?  What'd you get?

I'm lucky enough to have a year round CSA. Smiley  Right now we're getting a lot of summer squash, cherries, strawberries, peaches, apricots, spinach, fresh garlic, green beans and the first basil and tomatoes of the summer. I'm going to make pizza with fresh pesto and tomatoes this weekend! I'm so excited! I love summer produce. I can't wait til we start getting melon! Cheesy

Anyone have recipe ideas for summer squash? I have a ton and I'm getting more today.  So far, I've used it in frittatas, mixed with pasta, put it in soup and I'm planning to make some zucchini bread.

So yesterday was my second week of farmshare this year!  I got spinach, green garlic, rhubarb, strawberries, mushrooms, zucchini, and lettuce.  Last week was very similar but we got asparagus! mmmmm asparagus.

Last week I made a Rhubarb Strawberry Cobbler that I may make a thread for later, but here's the recipe
http://www.donogh.com/cooking/rhubarb/cobbler.shtml

and also an Asparagus Mushroom Frittata mmmm  Recipe in this pdf.

I just made fennel soup and it's really nice-
I chopped up the fennel and boiled it in broth with 1/2 a potato, then used the immersion blender to whizz it with some plain cream cheese - it's delish!

I just got some beets though, I'm not a fan either. Hmmm....

I just got my first fennel of this year and I may do that!

This week I got
Portabello mushrooms
New potatoes
Wax beans (I think)
Chives
Carrots
some sort of lettuce
Bottle onions
Garlic

Last week I made my go to meal for using up lots of veggies. Lentil soup.

I put lentils and broth in a slow cooker with whatever veggies sound good or need to be used up! Last week was kohlrabi, celery, onions, and potatoes, with a little flat leaf parsley thrown in. mmmmmmmm

Thanks to the Craftster Blog Facebook link I found this cool thread.  and I thought that Craftster was only crafts...

anyways I'm a first time CSA share reciever in New England (so sad all this rain is making for a poor harvest)

I've been getting loads of onions and kale

the Kale I've been sauteeing until it turns a brighter shade of green then adding vegetable or chicken broth to cover and letting it come to a boil.  nice easy flavored sauteed kale.

The onions I made onion soup with.

so far I've not gotten a lot of weird stuff, my share also includes jams, honey, fruit, cheese or eggs in addition to veggies so they stick to the basics.  Corn just came in so I'm excited.

Look forward to reading this thread and adding more recipes when some thing new appears in my share.

happy eating!

What a fun thread! We did a CSA a couple years ago and really loved it. Maybe next year we can do it again! If only there was another mod who lived near me who might want to split a share? (achoo kittykill, achoo!)

What did you do with the green garlic Jungrrl? My favorite thing I think I did was a green garlic, leek, and new potato soup! Yum! Also, we took the option of getting a bunch of salad greens mix every week, which was really nice!

I think I just ended up sauteing it with some chicken and onions.  I do remember it being super yummy Cheesy

We do TERRIBLE with salad greens.  Each year at the start of the share I feel like an epic failure  Tongue

I try to keep some yummy salad dressing made up in the fridge, and a few toppings I know I like (feta, sliced red onions, sunflower seeds) and then I do better with em! I like buying one of those cruet things for dressing, and then making from scratch/or from store bought packet depening on how lazy I feel. Note to self~take salad dressing to work!

Dangit, now I am craving veggies Sad Maybe some pureed carrots...

Hey Fellow CSA-ers!  I'm stumped this week. Two weeks in a row with TONS of different kinds of peppers and I just don't know what to do! Salsa is on my must do list but after that I'm at a loss. Any ideas?  Huh
