My friend just got a new house, and the countertops are a very bright red/orange/salmon-y colour, so instead of trying to match it she's just going to go with a theme of bright random colours in there. I suggested if she goes that route, she might as well do a "Day of the Dead" theme.

And so... I made her this (the flowers are mine, I just thought they looked neat next to it)

It's a mix of felt (the background is some awesome patterned felt I found at Hobby Lobby), embroidery, fabric, puffy paint, and random beads. The frame was a plain wooden frame from Michael's that I painted and removed the glass. The skull is slightly stuffed to give it a 3-d effect. I'm not the best at embroidery, but I'm quite pleased with how this turned out Cheesy

I had never seen sugar skulls done in embrodiery until I discovered this site. It's a great decorating idea, unique and colorful. I like how this turned out, it practially jumps out of the frame.

Thanks for all the comments! Smiley

I just used the cheap poly-fil to stuff it a little. Cotton balls pulled apart could probably acheive the same effect.

What a great idea!  I'll have to try it.  Sugar skulls are awesome!  I'm currently working on some sugar skull jewlery.  Great Job! Grin
