first skirt: ginkgo leaves!

This is the first thing I've crafted in a while, let alone sewn! I haven't sewn in well over a year, and that was with a pattern (AND I had to modify it several times before I was happy with it!) I am soooo not a seamstress - I think I'll stick with crochet and spinning, thank you Regardless, I want to make more of these!

I drafted the pattern from an existing skirt but since I didn't have any closures, I added an extra panel (11 total panels) and then added some elastic to the back of it.

Here it is!



Standing still. Its actually a really flared skirt. I tried to get a still of me spinning in it, but taking pictures of myself means the motion setting on the camera wasn't too functional. haha




Being held out. You can see the ginkgo leaves I machine stitched on there better.




The ginkgo leaves! I drew them out with chalk first and then just stitched onto what I drew.





The waistband. Let me tell you, its crazy hard to get a picture of that without taking the skirt off. I just stitched randomly onto the waistband in crazy, curvy patterns. Originally i was going to do that on the skirt, as well, but decided I liked it best simple with the leaves. I still might add a branch to the leaves but I'm undecdided.





I didn't hem the edge and I dont have a serger, so I used a zigzag stitch on the edge to keep it held together.



I'm super proud of it! I wore it out today and got a couple compliments on it (as well as on an owl changepurse I got from crafty_dame a while back. People thought my outfit was very "naturey"! haha)

Thanks! Im considering adding the branch and maybe some gold seed beads, but I don't want to mess it up on accident. The more I do with this, the higher the chances!

i abso;outly love the ginko leaves right now and this skirt is no exception! its gorgeous! i love the combination of the colours, as well as the creative stitching on the hem.  personally i like the ginko leaves seperate from the branch. its perfect!

Well thats one vote for a branch and one against. I like the idea of less work

I absolutely love ginkgo leaves. I have an entire corner of my room (well, right now its my "office" but until I move again, all my stuff is in one room) with ginkgo stuff. crafty_dame made me a ginkgo bag last time I visited her, alwaysinmyroom made me a collage painting, lothruin made me a felted patch and sent me a bracelet with ginkgo leaves on it, I got some ginkgo leaves off a tree last time I visited jungrrl and theyre dried and scattered about...

wow. I really am obsessed, aren't i? And the craftster mods are facilitators! ah!

I swear I can stop any time I want....

This is one beautiful skirt! It can be casual or dressy depending on the fabric. And I am a total tree/leaf fetish person!
