i've read a lot of posts from knitters on this swap. Are there any crocheters?  Just wondering since I'm one myself.

I'm so jealous of everyone's time to get the cloth done! I'm hoping that my crabby daughter will go down for a nap so that I can have at least an hour to start on one of my partner's dishcloths! Tongue

I really got the hang of knitting about six years ago.  I have made a bunch of hats, purses, scarves, and a few dishcloths.  As far as crochet goes... I just taught myself how to make those round rag rugs made out of stripped up old sheets/old fabric.  I love to make those!!!  I don't know if I'm doing it exactly right, but they turn out looking o.k.  I wouldn't have the first clue as to what to do with a crochet hook and a pattern and yarn, however...  So thanks, giz for the you-tube video link!  I'll check that out!

The cloths I'm making for this swap are different than anything I've done in the past.  I'll just say that they involve a lot of counting and alternating between knitting and purling  Roll Eyes  I followed a pattern for the first one, and I'm making up the second one.

I hate the first washcloth I made, so I'm frogging it and starting over. I'm going to make it bigger, following the pattern it came out small. Tongue

ditto on both accounts.  I'll check out the video when I start the crochet one, I'm actually still working on the first one, but it is going well.  I am using removable stitch markers to mark off where I need to do some switching (my lazy self is using safety pins as my removable stitch markers, I have since found my legitimate ones, but the safety pins are working just fine.  Safety pins are my favorite knitting tool, I use them for cabling too. Cheesy).

Woo indeed! I am working on the second one for you. Hopefully I'll get it done tonight. Trying some new stuff on both and the first one came out pretty great, if I do say so myself.  Grin

Cables. *shudder*  My nemesis.  I did one project w/cabling (SnB's newsboy cap) and it drove me nuts.  Tongue

You're welcome Savvy!  Smiley  I think you'll enjoy the videos.

Do you have any pix of the rugs you made?  If I had the right gear I'd try my hand at one of those. (add it to the list of crafts to do before I die ) Smiley

If this stitch pattern doesn't make you hate cabling, nothing will: http://www.lionbrand.com/cgi-bin/faq-search.cgi?store=/stores/eyarn&faqKey=311&language=

Here I did it:

My hand cramps just looking at it.  I like cabling, but this pattern is over the top.  I guarantee your hands will hurt and hurt bad.  I love the look, but I can't imagine another cable pattern that will make your hand cramp worst than anything.  That is why it is soo small.  Ooowwwwww.
