Concrete to brick front steps

When we moved into this house, there was indoor/outdoor carpet covering the front steps. It was nasty, worn, and drooping with holes along the front edges. I couldn't take it!!!
One sunny day, I ripped the carpet off, cleaned it well, and set to work. Here's what it looked like step-by-step:


I cleaned it up, then cut a roll of blue painter's tape in half to make narrower strips:

Laid out my design, using a couple of real bricks as examples:

Painted with an 'oops' color I got for $5 a gallon:

Peeled the tape before the paint dried:

Touched up a few spots.
It has held up quite well through the winter!

A project this size and amount of planning really is for the hard core do-it yourselfers.

Wow!  What kind of paint did you use and what did you seal it with?  Can I ask what state you are in?  I have always been afraid to paint my steps because of my fear that, come winter, the snow and ice will cause the paint to bubble and leave me with a huge eyesore.  That is an amazing transformation.
