Yep, it's elephant garlic.  I planted it last September and it's been growing since then.  I'm going to take a couple of the heads and split them and put them right back into the soil.

The soil, btw, is a 50/50 mix of garden soil and compost.  We compost everything that comes from the garden that we don't eat.  We have also thrown in a few worms, and they do a great job of keeping things stirred up.

my mom always has a huge vegetable garden on her front lawn. with everything from tomatoes and cukes, to garlic and different types of onions. i sure do miss having access to the ground (i'm living in an apartment in the city)
