Im only seventeen but ive always been in awe of bob ross.Even though i do mostly portraiture and he does amazing landscapes hes what inspired me to get into drawing and now its one of my biggest passions and im getting better. This portrait is a few months old and i didnt have time to draw a new one but i just wanted to share=D  he hangs up on my wall(though it is slightly creepy late at night)and it inspires me to get drawing when im frustrated.

This is great! I used to watch him for hours. "happy little tree". I learned how to paint pine trees from him. You really captured his personality here.

This is great - people put up little anti-bob ross stickers around town and it makes me sad...

At least that's my guess...

Bob's TV shows... and his simple, step by step classes, made art accessible to the general public.  For some of the more snobbish "Arteests"... that was unacceptable.

Personally, I thought the man rocked.

i remember as a kid bob ross was on PBS in the mid afternoon and during the summer when i was off school i would lay on the couch in the AC in some sort of bob-ross-stupor. his hushed voice was absurdly calming!

I am 35, and I remember watching Bob Ross when I was little painting the "happy clouds", and was absolutely in awe of him, and his paintings.  I always wanted to paint like him, but it isn't my gift, so instead I would just sit there as close to the TV as I could possibly get, and be mesmerized by his talent and his soothing voice.  Go BOB!

Bob Ross!!  Oh man, how many hours of my childhood did I spend plastered to the TV, wishing I had palate knives and fan brushes so I could make friendly little streams and happy trees and proud branches like him??  TOO MANY, I tell you.

Great job, and a great tribute to an iconic painter.  Smiley

Your drawings are great.  I too loved his "happy little clouds".  He was a great inspiration and continues to be in his reruns on PBS.  Thanks for sharing.

My first "This Rocks" went to you.  Very talented.  I knew it was Ross when I saw the thumbnail.  You have got some serious talent there.  Keep letting it grow.  I remember Ross from my childhood.  My mom would watch his shows and would get his books and try to paint like him.  She did very good.  I wish she painted more.  She really likes doing it.  So I encourage you to stay at it and not let it become something you do every blue moon.   Wink

Bob Ross is the bees knees!  I love watching him..."lets give this tree a friend...everybody needs a friend."

My bf calls him the human qualude.  He says he can be in a rage and see Bob and suddenly, tranquility descends.  Cheesy

Nice job with the drawing.  It looks exactly like him.

WHAT?!  Angry Why would anyone be anti-Bob Ross?

Your drawing is amazing. I still watch the show.

I think he inspired a lot of people to pick up paint brushes who wouldn't have thought they had an ounce of artistic ability. The " I think I can" philosophy is maybe half the battle.

What a sad world when people have to mock gentle, creative folk like Bob Ross! Bob was soft, sweet, and inspirational. He was his own person and not afraid to be different.  Maybe art school snobs are afraid of that--really being your own person, and not just "different like EVERYONE ELSE" is in art school . . .

You portrait is terrific.  I especially like the detail of his teeth--teeth are so hard!  And Bob's hair.  Apparently he never cut his hair and let it grow in a 'fro because he didn't want to spend money on hair cuts.

Oh my gosh!  LOVE it.  Great job, especially your shading- I always have issues with my shading.
When we were kids, my cousin and I always, always watched Bob Ross.  If we were at the others house, it was hold everything, drop the legos, time to watch Bob.  Then my cousin got the whole Bob Ross painting set (easel, paints, brushes, etc.) and I was so ridiculously jealous.  Wonderful memories.

Good drawing, I remember watching him when I was growing up in the 80's on pbs. They still have his show on re-runs during the day (I only know this cause I have been recovering from a surgery, so I have been watching alot of tv). I always liked his show, I have been trying to explain to my husband who he is (his is older than me) and the poor guy doesn't know who Bob Ross is. Maybe if they happen to have his show on tomorrow, I can finally show my husband he is.
