Harley Quinn has been a favourite of mine for a long time. She's quirky, funny, crazy, and a little evil: I could always relate to her. Harley is a fan favourite, which I like, because she's not the typical comic grrl: no long ridiculous hair, short skirt, or ridiculous "armor" covering nothing but their naughty bits. She's whimsical, crafty, and wears pants. A good role model to have, if you gotta choose a villain for your role model. Smiley

The illustration I worked from on this skateboard was by Bruce Timm, an awesome Batman artist. Harley here is painted onto an old skateboard.

Great painting!  You really got her smile

I always loved Harley, particularly her design.  Fun fact, Bruce Timm (and Paul Dini) actually created her, she was never in the comics before they put her in the TV show.  But now she is everywhere because she is teh awesome Wink

If it wasn't from a Bruce Timm illustration as inspiration...I would've guessed it was inspired by illustrator Shane Glines. This Rocks! Gotta love Harley! Wink You did a beautiful job with her!

I love it!  Great work, she is my favorite of all time.  One year I made me and my husband's custumes and we went as Harley Quinn and Joker, my favorite Halloween so far.

Shane was actually Bruce's protege for a while and did the character designs for Batman:The Animated Series and other Batman shows.  ^_^  I'm a HUGE fan of both of them, and have a great original Harley sketch from Bruce.

I'm loving the skateboard!  I can't believe how nice it turned out.  I would have thought it was a professional print job if I didn't know better.  This is definately at the top of my list for this challenge!

Great job!  It looks very professional.  What kind of paints did you use?

I primed first with a spray primer (after sanding like crazy, of course), then I used good ol' acrylic (not the watery craft stuff, though, the acrylics for painting canvasses etc.) Then I did some spots of important detail with permanent marker, then I varnished with a water-based varnish that wouldn't eat my marker or paint.  A word to the wise: be careful with your varnish choices, and esp. make sure you test any paint and markers on a scrap of the same material you're painting on (ie. I tested my markers and paint under the varnish on a scrap of wood, since this board is wood). I had to test a bunch of brands of markers to get one that wouldn't run when the varnish hit it. And a special secret tip: markers and acrylic paints need three days to "set" and stop off-gassing, so DON'T apply varnish to anything that is less than three days' painted. You can ruin something really special.

You did an excellent job!! I've always been a Harley fan haha.

Fun extra tidbit - I was at a comic convention last weekend, & there were a few really good Harley Quinns there. Here's a fun picture of a pretty good HQ -coincidentally- by some balloons.  http://www.flickr.com/photos/karataylor/2620212794/

That is SOOO adorable!!!

Batman has always been my favorite super hero... and the Joker/Harley team as Villians was always amazing!!!

I really like this, I'd love to have someone do that on a skateboard for me... lol and I dont even skate...
I could let my BF skate on it for me... or just hang it on a wall so it doesn't get ruined...

either way, this one is definately my favorite so far!!!

Oh I love her too!

I've always wanted to get a tattoo of her, but with the onslaught of Batman loving movie studios out there, I've always been very cautious that someone may "re-invent" her. Yup yup. (Kinda like what they did with Mystique- last time I saw her she was supposed to be wearing clothes! Not naked on screen. Geesh.)
