my DH's step mom gave me his old beach towel.
its worn thin, and very very thing in spots.

i was going to make it into a blanket by backing it with something super soft, but i don't want the towel part to fall apart.

Is there anything i can do to reinforce the thin areas or the whole towel?

I'd use iron on interfacing. Not sure if that's the correct thing to do, but I would think it would help reinforce the towel a bit.
