a little backstory on this dress:
after seeing everyone's butterick whirl-away dress, i became inspired and bought the pattern and this pile of pretty red & white polka dot fabric for something like $8/yard (ew, that's a lot for me; i usually buy a 50cent bedsheet and use that!). ok, well, everyone else looks WONDERFUL in the dress, but it was a disaster on me! i think my chest was too large; it stretched the lines and just looked awful. so i threw it (and $$ worth of fabric!) in my disaster basket and forgot about it.

until yesterday, when i decided i needed something to wear for the 4th of july!

the bodice is new look 6557, the skirt is the leftover from that whirl-away dress (hence why it's sooo swirly) aaand the lining is from a tablecloth. oh, i also used leftover bias tape from the whirl-away dress  to trim the chest area, then used some old pillowcases to trim the bottom to make it match.

on my dress dummy.

bodice. the bias tape is hand-sewn on so you don't see any stitching from the front.

on me:

i think i'm going to wear a blue belt with it for the holiday. unless it looks stupid?

it took me soo many attempts to get a full-length shot of this! (i live alone and use a tripod). sorry i look bad.

huuuge skirt Grin

oh! and one more thing- my cat supervising  Wink

thanks for looking! let me know what you think!

Wow. That is just fantastic! The fabric is super cute, the dress fits fantastically and looks fabulous on you, and the belt works with it too. Good job on salvaging it and making it even better.

My god that dress is just adorable. I think it looks better with a large 80s-ish belt anyway, in whatever color, but yes, blue for the holiday. And you, my dear, are just the cutest thing! I adore your hair!  Grin
