Ok...so I'm slow.  What is/are mill ends?  I don't have any knitter friends to clarify this for me.  Is it discontinued yarn or "seconds"?  I've seen deals on mill ends but I'm afraid that if I buy it I'm going to start knitting and discover that something is wrong with the yarn. Thanks!

I think mill ends are the odd sized leftover bits of yarn that won't make a full ball- So say you sell yarn in 100 yard balls, and you spin one piece of yarn that's 1095 yards long, you'd have enough for 10 full balls, but then 95 yards left over.  You make that into a ball, but it's too small to be one of your 'real' balls, so it get's sold as a mill end.  They're usually sold by weight (for less than the normal price per weight for that yarn)

Melidomi, you're awesome!   You always give such informative and easy to understand responses.  Just had to chime in with that.  I guess that's why you're a soon-to-be master knitter.  How is that going btw?

Thanks Mojisha!  I sent out my level 2 requirements about 2 weeks ago (and according to the post office they've just arrived at their destination last week).  But more exciting, if you look at the latest edition of Cast On, you will see *my name* in the list of those who have passed Level 1.  Sure, *I* knew I'd passed back in December, but now the world knows Wink
