When I was in school I wrote him a letter and he actually wrote back! (yes, it was him writing, If anyone thinks otherwise I will cry)
How terrific and meaningful that you have a personal letter from him! His foundation still writes back to people who write him. My 3 year old son sent in a drawing and Mr. McFeely (David Newall now PR director for Mr. Rogers foundation) wrote him a letter praising his efforts and also sent an autographed picture. Mr. McFeely also called(!) him for his birthday. (That was my son's birthday wish to talk to Mr. McFeely and have a speedy delivery bag.) Mister Roger's heroic efforts continue.

This is truly AMAZING. I am feeling very teary and sentimental just looking at him in his little sweater. You should find a way to contact his widow and show him to her. I am sure she'd love to see it.

He truly was my hero too! I am glad you immortalized him in yarn.
When I was in school I wrote him a letter and he actually wrote back! (yes, it was him writing, If anyone thinks otherwise I will cry) I kept an autographed photo of him on my wall til I was 19. Did you know that he was a ordained minister? Thank you for sharing this wonderful project! It rocks.
As a teenager I was in the Pittsburgh Post Gazette for a community service project and he wrote me to tell me how proud he was of me. Seriously. I wrote back and he wrote back AGAIN and responded to what I had written. A few months later, he died. I will bet you 100% he did hand write you that letter himself. He was a great man.

I grew up without PBS and without Mr. Rogers. He was a joke to me and my friends when we were teenagers. I caught a few minutes of his program once in my 20's and thought he was bizarre.
Then I had children.
While searching for a show they could watch one morning, the last few minutes of
Mr Roger's Neighborhood
were on. I thought, "Well, we'll watch this until
Arthur
comes on." I was hooked. The kids were hooked.
Mr. Rogers did a lot of good for the world. He wasn't my childhood hero, but he's one of my adult ones.
Oh, and to keep this on topic - you did a fantastic job! You really captured his face and his essence. Love the shoes and the trolley too! Great job!

I watched Mr. Rogers when I was a child, but didn't get too wrapped up in it, or so I thought. When I was 2 months pregnant with my daughter ( and very hormonal ) he passed away. I cried every day for 2 weeks. I had no idea how much of an effect he had on my childhood, until I imagined raising a child in a world without Mr. Rogers. I called my mom daily to grieve to her. So as a joke she got me his biography on DVD for my birthday, after that I got another one, then I got The World According to Mr. Rogers, and The Simple Faith of Mr. Rogers.
He is still my hero. If anyone has ever come close to figuring out what life is about it is him. He was a kind, and wise man...and now I'm bawling again.

I loved that red cardigan.
Oddly enough he was red-green colorblind.

What a lovely project! Thanks for posting it.
I didn't watch Mr. Rogers as a kid; I grew up in England and didn't move here until I was much older. But I experienced his show as an adult -- he was a comfort to me when I was home sick or had a day off or just felt crummy.
I don't have any children but I still watch Mr. Rogers when I have the chance.
Loudon Wainwright III wrote a song about Fred Rogers called
Hank & Fred
-- it's a lovely tribute to both Mr. Rogers and Hank Williams. It's worth a listen.
I'd like to think that we are all better people because of Mr. Rogers.
Gotta go -- I'm getting all maudlin here and don't want to start
at work!

You did an incredible job (your ami version looks just like the real thing!).
I love Mister Rogers, and hope someday I can be just like him when I grow up. He is my hero.
