I was invited to create some art for a silent auction diner for the National Zoo. It's Tai's Bearday Party, he turns 3 and the event to help raise money for the pandas! I'm excited but also pretty nervous.

This piece is 11"x14" created with Panpastels and pastel pencils on colourfix paper.

Detail of the face

This piece is 11"x14" created with Sennelier Oil Pastels on Canson Paper

I never worked with oil pastels before, so I took a pretty big risk with this one. I'm very nervous about this piece and I would appreciate feedback on so I can improve a little more with the medium.

Thanks for looking

Thank you so much! It really is an honor to be doing something like this! I think I called everyone I knew when they gave me the invitation, I just couldn't believe it! I really feel very fortunate to be apart of this. Thankfully, we live in New Jersey so we're able to attend the event. It's going to be our vacation for this year, pretty exciting stuff!  Grin

WOW! You have an amazing amount of talent!! I have worked very little with pastels, but what I have done is so sub-par. These, though... I'm so envious of your abilities!

thank you guys  Grin Just to clarify, I mostly use soft pastels. I'm really familiar with them and I think it's my strongest medium. I never used oil pastels before. I did kind of like using them because it reminded me of oil painting a bit.

Hey guys! I just got back from DC! The portraits did great!  Both portraits were on display at the zoo on Tuesday and Wednesday. The auction was on Wednesday night and overall the organization raised $17,000! My work was a pretty good chunk of that so I feel really proud and fortunate I was able to help! Kinda makes me think I'm setting my prices too low, but I'm still pretty happy.
