Have fun everyone! This should be pretty laid back with the amount of time you have. PM me as you finish your states and I will mark them off the list for you.

Swap name: 50 States Block Swap
Craftster member who is organizing this swap: chinarockfishakm
Sign-up date range: June 28 to July 6, 2008
Date to send item by: November 6, 2008
Limited to a certain number of people? (optional): 6 (including organizer)
Restricted to people who all live in the same country? YES/NO
If so, which country? No
Age requirement? 13+ (be able to get to the post office on time)

Swap Organizer himself/herself meets these conditions:
- Has fully read the Swap Info Guide: YES
- Has successfully completed two swaps as a participant: YES
- Is not organizing more than three swaps right now: YES
- Will recruit a co-organizer or give all details to a Swap Moderator if this swap has more than 25 participants: YES

Swap Organizer will check each participant to make sure they meet these conditions:
- Has been a member for at least one month: YES
- Has posted at least 15 times: YES
- Has completed one swap successfully before signing up for multiple swaps at a time: YES
- Is not currently signed up for more than five swaps: YES
- Does not have any negative feedback: YES
- Participant has agreed that he/she is at least 13 years old: YES

BE SURE YOU WILL WANT TO FINISH THE WHOLE SWAP SO NOBODY IS MISSING STATES AT THE END.

Details of swap: The goal of this swap is for each person to have a block for each state and in the end to be able to make a quilt out of them. To start I will let people pick their first 2 states, and 2 alternates. If two people pick the same states the person that PMd the questionnaire to me first gets it. The alternates will only be used if you got beat to your first choices. Otherwise they will be thrown back into the pool for random assignments. I will assign the rest of your 6 states randomly (maybe have one of the kids pick out of a hat or somethinghaha.)
The block will be this one:
http://www.quilt.com/BlockOfTheMonth/1997/SawtoothStar.html
This is a 6 inch block. The focus fabric can be ANYTHING that represents the state you have (state bird, flower, a sports team, symbol of the state, famous food from the state, etc....), and the background can be ANYTHING that you feel coordinates well and represents the state and block well. The pattern calls for 2 focus fabrics but I will only require one. I will include a list of states chosen in the thread so we know whats left. I would like each person to include a note with each state explaining why they chose the focus fabric (what it represents). Please indicate if you want the blocks to have the state name written on them by the maker or if you would rather get it blank and write it yourself. . Some people might want uniform writing and do it all themselves. Others might not care.

Logistics: There will be 6 people in the swap. Each person will get 8 states. You will make one of each for yourself to keep and 5 more of each to send. In all you will have made 48 blocks by the end of the swap. There will be 2 states left at the end and you can make those for yourself to complete your quilt. There will be 3 blocks left if we include Washington DC (there has been a requesthehe). I will give 3 months from the date the states are assigned for them to be completed. This should be ample time to finish.

Shipping: DC# will be mandatory due to the amount of work that will be put into this. You can ship as early as you want but be sure to send by October 6, 2008 at the very latest. You may either mail as you complete states or save them all for one mass mailing to each person at the end. Just contact me as you send so I know what has been sent.

I have added everyone that has sent in so far. Only one spot left! YAY! Recruit someone please! I am dying to assign the rest of the states. Im gonna use a nifty random list generator. WOO! I have already found good fabric for my first two. One question. I am dumb about fabric amounts. Is a FQ enough for 6 of each block? Like would one FQ makes all 6 of my Maine blocks for focus fabric? It would be cheaper than buying half yards etc.

I pmed jenicat to see if she's interested in the last spot... we shall see Wink

I think the fat quarter question depends in whether you are using one or two focus fabrics. If one, you might be pushing it after cutting all those triangles. you might want to get 2 FQs. If you are using it just for the center square, and another fabris for the points, I think one would be fine.

Just gonna be one focus and coordinating background. Think a regualr 45 inch wide 1/4 yard would be better and not cost much more than a FQ. Im already eyeing fabrics. HAHA! Hopefully the last spot is filled tomorrow! Grin
