Well, the downside of this project is that I gave it to my little stepbrother, since he left for Iraq today. But the good part about it is he has no excuse not to write me now. Sneaky sister.

I basically just took some cheap upholstery fabric from Wal-Mart, made sure it would fold twice, and then put pockets everywhere to stick stuff, like the notebook, envelopes, pens, and deck of cards. Then, on the outside, since it was dull-looking, I stenciled on a little army guy with a beret. I made the stencil myself. (yay me!)

It's a simple thing, but I hope you guys like it.

edited to actually put the pictures in my post.

Such an awesome idea! I have a few friends overseas, and this would have been the perfect thing to make for them.  I especially love the big buttons and stencil.

What a thoughtful sister you are.

Your idea and project turned out great!

It's nice that he will have that with him as a constant reminder that he has such a creative and thoughtful sister back home.

God bless our troops!

Be what you would seem to be - or, if you'd like it put more simply - never imagine yourself not to be otherwise than what it might appear to others that what you were or might have been was not otherwise than what you had been would have appeared to them to be otherwise.

Way cool Idea and it's way cool that there is an idea for somthing to send to our troops over seas. I Just mailed out a care package to a friend of mine who's in Japan with the Navy and sadly it turned out to be mainly candy and cheep DVDs becouse I had no Idea what else to do. I might be temped to make one of these for him if it weren't for the problem that I am no good at sewing  Angry .
Some one should make up a bunch of these to give to the USO.

My cousin is also in the Navy and stationed in Japan. He came home for a week last month and had a quickie marriage to his girlfriend, and now he's going to be away for the next 3 years. Maybe your friend and my cousin are station together... that would be all 6 degrees of seperation-ey! Oh yeah, and as far as a care package goes... soap, chapstick, deoderant and new socks. especially new socks.

That IS a great idea! If only I had someone to give this to... but no one writes me letters. Oh well. Japan is the place to be for military people, boyfriend's cousin was there earlier and will be again soon, hopefully out of Iraq at least.
