I made two flower birthday cakes two weeks ago.  I had only planned to make one (my own), but my husband's boss asked me to make a cake for his wife's birthday.  So, I used mine as a trial run.  I used the same method as I did on my flower cupcakes.  The idea came from Hello, Cupcake.

This is the cake I made for my husband's boss.

Close-up of butterfly.  I made the butterfly using red licorice and orange and pink sprinkles, with an orange M&M for his head and frosting for the body.

Close-up of flowers with ladybug and bee.  M&Ms on Oreos and Nilla Wafers.

Close-up of border, made using a star tip.

My cake, made before the other one, so the flowers aren't quite as good.

Close-up of caterpillar.  I didn't like it quite enough to put it on the other cake.

Oh WOW...this is so awesome and it ROCKS!  I am bookmarking it in my Craftster Favorites folder.  I bet it was a big hit with your hubby's boss' wife.

That's so awesome.  I love it!

The little bees and ladybugs are my favorite.  They are just too cute.

I love the butterfly filled in with sprinkles too.

This is sooo cute.  Great ideas for the little critters.  That ladybug is so sweet.  Your Caterpillar came out cute but looks like maybe the decorating stuff (sorry...chocolate--frosting?) got too sticky?  I love the little "spikey" feet.
