Clown box

I love a scary clown. I don't know why, but I do have a fondness for them.

I found the perfect little jewelry cabinet for a dollar at the thrift store, and thought it would be fun to make a little shrine, or "clown box". It's about 4" by 7 1/2", so it's a great size.



I removed the drawers, took out the wood partition in the middle, and painted the box with a few layers of paint. I collaged some fun papers on it, and then sanded parts of it down to show some of the paint layers. The clown images are from a collage sheet from Alpha Stamps. The ones in the back wall are set up a little with some sticky foam squares. The clown in the front is glued down just at his foot, and then suspended with gold threads. I know lots of people will think it's creepy, but I'm pretty happy with it.

Wow ! That's really impressive ! I hate clowns, scary or happy... but this shrine is gorgeous. I love the oldish look of the paint layers. Great work !

I have one question though, how did you manage to secure the gold thread to the top?

That's awesome Racky, it is a definite improvement! (and that's coming from a non-clown lover so it must be good! ) I love all the papers you've used too.

Securing that thread was the hardest part of the whole process. I cut a piece of paper to the right size, and then used a needle to thread the gold strings through the paper. I then attached only the very back part of that paper to the top of the box, glued down the foot of the clown, and gently pulled the strings tight. Since only the back part of the paper was glued, I flapped the front of the paper down and taped the strings in place. Then I trimmed off the excess, and used Mod Podge to secure the front back up.

I had to do it three times before it worked correctly.
