I'm not a skirt wearing person anymore... I've worn a dress once in the past 4 years (or more). So... my old favorite skirt has hung in the closet collecting dust for a very long time. I've always loved the pattern and the fabric so I decided to make a top out of it.
I almost gave up half-way through. The fabric is stretchy and kept sliding out of place even though I pinned it. After hearing my vented frustration, my mom got online and found how to sew stretchy fabric - sew through tissue paper! And it worked really well. Yay! I'm happy with how it turned out. I finally made something I'll actually wear.

Before - Skirt

After - Cute summer top.

Wow. What a great recon! Great job... You look awesome in that top, and it IS a great pattern. Smiley

Did you use a top pattern, or did you draft it yourself?

Thanks. I used another halter top as somewhat of a pattern. I wanted to do the neck part differently but I didn't have enough fabric. I made a few mistakes along the way (mostly due to the trouble with the stretchy fabric) so I improvised.

That is the link my mom found. I actually put the tissue paper on the outside. The paper was white so it was transparent enough to see what I was doing. It was a nuissance to pick off all of the bits of paper but I'd rather do that than try to sew stretchy fabric without it.

it is not inertia alone that is responsible for human relationships repeating themselves, monotonous and un-renewed, it is shyness before all else.
