My brother asked me to turn a plastic ID bracelet into something more permanent.
This is what I came up with:


This is what the bracelet looked like originally:


I just knit a 1x1 ribbed band in the round on double pointed needles, cut out the ID part of the bracelet, and blanket stitched it on.
It is knit in Rowan Cotton Rope.

Anyway, here are a couple more photos:

I'm glad to hear he was ok and I love your idea! 
Just remind him that if he gives it to a girl, he better be really nice.  That's a lot of personal info on the bracelet that could be used for malicious purposes.  Sorry to rain on the parade, but you can't be too careful.
