yep, the ch3 are there. I even thought it was the ch3 the problem, that I somehow did the chains too big and they lifted everything up, but tried using a ch2 instead and the same problem was there

now I am thinking I may be doing something back when waving in the changes of colors, because I do it as I go, but I can't think what it may be.

oh! and I'm not a beginner, but neither an expert! nobody I know here crochets, so I learn from errors and from the internet...

It does seem like the problem is happening when you do your color change. How do you change colors? I know you're supposed to do it before you finish the last stitch of the previous color, but I don't know if it is the same when working in rounds...
