Christmas is a time for joy, and obscure references in my case.  Here is a gift I crafted last Christmas for one of my loved ones.  See there is a family story involving her and the song "I Want a Hippopotamus For Christmas" so I felt duty bound to give her one!  One of the lines says something like, I can't wait to look under the tree and see my Hippo Hero standing there.  Well, here came an idea!

He is made of fleece, with a fleece removable costume for his secret identity.
There was a puppy pattern that I happened to have from Simplicity I think, so I did some modifying and ended up with the cutest hippo I know!

Comments are loved even if my craft isn't.   Thanks for looking!

That is so cute!!!!!! I love him.  A Hippo hero is something you definitely don't see every day...  very cute idea!  I must say the spiral little nostrils may be my favorite part... or the button eyes... or the teeth... i don't know i just loooove it!

That is one adorable hippo. I especially love his nostrils!

Oh my goodness, he is so stinkin' cute!! That song was a constant theme around our house this past Christmas, too. So I got my daughter a Hippo Webkinz. This would have been much better. Well done, you!
