Everyone meet Vaaque!

This is my first attempt at caning from looking at a pic.
http://shala.auriplane.net/wallpaper/alien2.jpg>>>>Drawn by SKerri13(she is awsome!)

made some simple "plus" shaped star cane, reduced to diff sizes.....

Skinner blend planet, trying to make it "saturn" like.....

my ring is kind of reaching a little high around it, but oh well.......(first attempt will have accidents, just learn from them)

This is pre-reduced stage here.......

Here she is all reduced and reduced.

one side of bead (it has 6 holes sideways for multiple strands)

other side slightly different
My black clay was very very soft, so it obviously moved the most.  My alien face cane was very very very VERY hard and moved little during reducing.

This is really awesome. I never realized you could put a whole picture in a cane! I applaud your mad skills.  As a side note... I don't know why, but the first thing I thought when I saw the alien was "oh... that would make a cool charm on an Indiana Jones bracelet." I'm weird.

Love the face, and Saturn and its colors! ...they both look especially great with the Skinner blends but would even look cool without them too.

Picture canes are so much fun to do too whether they're started with individual canes like yours was or just all built at the same time --I can't even describe how uncontrollably I've drooled over Mike Buesseler's "landscapes" canes  Grin Embarrassed

(For those of you interested in "picture" canes, check out some of the ones listed on this page:
http://www.glassattic.com/polymer/canes--instructions.htm
...click on the Picture Canes category near the bottom of the list, and see some of Mike's too under the subcategory Landscapes ...)

Gina, can't wait to see what canes you make next!
Btw, have you seen the "cutter" methods for making a star cane?  They're both cool techniques and make quite precise, tiny little stars.
One just uses a paper template of a star (or I've also used a large star sticker) on each of 2 rolled-up-strip clay cylinders of different colors...background wedges around the star are cut out and removed, then replaced with identical wedges from the 2nd color cylinder... when done, there will be two star canes, with opposite background and star colors.
The other technique uses a star-shaped cookie cutter and 2 cylinders or thick stacks of the same color, then replaces one cutout for the other in a similar way.  (Other cutter shapes can be used too--hearts, etc.)
If you're interested, there are some lessons on both here:
