Chains are funny that way...it will come 'untangled', you just have to play with it.  It's like a string a Christmas lights =)  Like the previous poster suggested, there is a master link that will look a little different than the others.  It has a retention clip that you can pop off and completely unfasten the chain.

Got it! Everyone at bikeforums politely informed me that it is indeed called a "chainstay" because the chain is SUPPOSED to be looped around it. Apparently i was looking at it wrong to start off with. ... just a bit embarrassed. But i bought a chain taker-aparter-thing at wal mart. it was hard! Took me like an hour or so.

But NOW I shall strip her nakey. hehe. Three weeks behind.   Undecided

Yay! You are getting it done! (unlike me..... I have been getting barely anything done.) I can't WAIT to see it finished! Grin

One time, my bro bro and his friend decided they were going to paint their bikes.  And they set them up against the house and spray painted them.  Needless to say there was a bike outline on the brick.  His mom was not happy. Cheesy

I forgot all about this post! I finished ANNNND I repainted it a shimmery  baby blue and it's got tiny silvery butterflies (from a stencil) on the head tube and the down tube. I'm waiting to be able to afford some chrome fenders, but the boyfriend did buy me a really cool wicker basket.

as far as that pesky stripped nut, i finally had to take a nail file to the thing and file it completely off on one side, which apparently loosened up the whole thing enough to screw off. It took like 2 days of filing. Grr.

since then i was given a new project (hurray for freecycle!). It was a sears free spirit from god knows when, and just about everything was rusted. SOLID steel frame that is probably heavier than i am. But all the components came off quite nicely, and it's now painted shimmery yellow with solid pink polka dots. REALLY big polka dots. But i haven't put it back together yet. Bought components to make it a fixed gear, but there are too many movable parts on a road bike for me to know what to do...

Will take pictures as soon as i get a camera, cause mine broke a few months back.
