whelp my husband and I got elected into office at our regional LARP group (Amtgard for those interested) and we had to have pretties for our stepping up into office.

both of us

and a view of the dress where you can see all the hem.

next time I appliqu crepe back Satin  onto crepe back Satin I'm putting a couple layers of embroidery stabilizer behind the bottom layer... just to keep the bias crinkles under control.

Germanica: thank you.. and two months later I Still think mine is laughing at all comers.

ManifestContent:  Which chapter?  (not that we have an down here) I hit the Alliance board periodically but post very little.  Before the board changeover I put up armor (that by your rules isn't really armor) and a banner, which is up in the home dec board SomeWhere.

it would be apt... but I have no idea if that would violate the spirit of the no advertising rule  Cheesy  it wouldn't the letter for sure...

wonder if any of us would get new people that way...

if nothing else it would let parents make something safer for their kids to beat on each other with than sticks they pick up in the back yard.

When we first made boffers, we would have been better off with sticks. We weren't sure on the specifications, so we used 1 inch pvc pipe with that really thin black pipe insulation, and they were too long and without squishy tips. They were really heavy and it felt like getting hit with a pipe basically. We've come a long way since then. =]

I think more people would larp if they knew how fun it is and how rare you actually get a serious injury.

Aww, you guys are so cute!  I can't believe you worked with that fabric -- it looks insanely difficult.

I wish I could do larp (injuries and all, LOL) but my husband's insane work schedule wouldn't allow much time for it.  Thinking about taking my kids to a jousting tournament this summer.  We're Barony of Gyldenhall.

Those dragons are great!  That fabric looks impossible to work with!  Congrats on getting elected!  Sounds like fun Smiley

other than a small minority if folks who want us to wave a magic wand and make all their real world problems go away it's been fun, a Lot of work still, but fun.

I didn't have any trouble working with the fabric, but crepe back satin is less slick than regular satin and I went in to the project treating it as if it was going to be a sliding mess so it behaved pretty well.

I keep reminding folks that there are thing you can do beyond fighting, a number of groups (Alliance and Nero both come to mind) where you wear a marker headband or tabard and everyone else know not to engage you in actual combat.  I makes it easier for folks who have life long issues to get involved without the fear of an accidental hit sending them to the hospital for a "silly little fall".  And given that most of the injuries I've seen have been trip or slip and fall type ones... (shrugs) those you can get walking your dog.

for building the boffers.. yeah.. I remember my first few.. big, heavy, slow to swing... graphite golf shafts (minus the head) and pool noodle make a Much lighter and faster toy.
