Cross stitch ninja
« on: June 17, 2008 12:29:57 PM »

I've been talking about making something like this for a couple of years, but the amount of time it would take to finish has put me off doing it until now. I started in march, and since I was in between jobs for most of the time since then I had a lot of spare time to work on it. (I had the next job sorted so I could do whatever I wanted until it started.) Finally it's finished!

Finished size 28 x 34 cm (with about 50 000 stitches...).

Love it!  Mario Bros 3 is my favorite from the old school Nintendo games.  I have it for my Gameboy now!
I just started my first "large" cross stich project and it is making me crazy, so I definately give you kudos for undertaking such a large project and having the patience to see it through.

That is pretty astonishing! And possibly the single most appropriate project from someone who calls themselves cross stitch ninja?

Um, but yeah, this is so rocking! Wow! It looks fantastic! I don't crosstitch myself, but I do knit, so I'm still fascinated by the relationship between pixels and stitches. Hence this is a feast for the eyes. Well done!

That is amazing! I'm in awe at your level of patience and dedication! How did you ever draw up the pattern?

Thanks guys! I'm still a little amazed that I actually finish these big projects, I've always been hopeless at quitting halfway.

Making a pattern for a video game cross stitch is super easy. I simply use a screen shot and zoom in real close so I can see and count the pixels. If you like you can make a grid at http://www.darklilac.com/upload.jsp or use a cross stitch program, but I mostly sit by the computer and stitch so I don't bother.

A good tutorial here: http://www.spritestitch.com/?p=391
