I just love polar bears!  Really, really love polar bears.  So I have been looking art all the cool felted animals adn I was in a local yarn shop where I picked up a starter felting kit.  After playing around a bit I flipped through a copy of Sweet Needle Felts to get some technique ideas.  And then I made this!  I didn't think it was working at first but I kept at it and I am pretty happy with how it turned out.  I didn't want to try to find tiny eyes so I felted those too.

How did I do?  Any suggestions?

i like the felted eyes better than beaded or googly or those other eyes. hes cuddly cute. i was just at the zoo on sunday, saw some polar bears. -glances back at your post- hes so cuuuute!

small story: one day in 9th grade science we were talking about polar bears. i knew waaaaay more than anyone else about them (i'm an avid animal planet watcher) i don't know what happened but i somehow i did the whole laughing-transitions-into-crying thing. i guess i wasn't the most stable 14 year old... anyway 5 years later a girl i was friends with still mentions my "freaky polar bear knowledge" every once in a while.

Thanks everyone!  I was getting pretty discouraged with it for awhile.  I'm not sure I really have the patience for needle felting but I do like the way it came out in the end.

And I grew up with my dad as a zoo administrator so I spent a lot of time wandering around a few different zoos around the country.  And I could pretty much go where ever I wanted.  I even got to feed a polar bear once... by tossing it a fish through the barred doors they had behind the scenes.. from several feet away.  As cuddly as they look apparently they are quite dangerous  Wink

So I know way more about a lot of animals.. and I have perhaps been known to cry watching polar bears on tv and I'm certainly not 14 anymore  Grin  Save the Polar Bears!

He's adorable!  I can't think of any way you could improve upon it.  It's so nice that something that took so much patience came out so well, don't you think?
