Thanks guys.   They do take a long time...the simplest, smallest ones take at least 6-8 hours.

I use size 14 plastic canvas.     And the stitches aren't actually cross stitch....the simpler ones use a mosaic stitch and the more complicated ones I just use a tent stitch.

I've got to agree with what others say...those backgrounds are really creative and just make the pieces pop.  Nice work!
