Hey there!

I tried to look through and search past Knit-a-longs... but I didn't see anything for this pattern!

http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEwinter05/PATTnamaste.html

I cast on two weeks ago... thinking I would have it done for this weekend (I have yoga teacher training every second weekend)... but I was so busy, and I had a really good friend come visit for five days, so my second weekend of classes is over, and my bag is still not finished!  I hope to finish it for the next weekend (October 10th)... or at least before it starts snowing.

I am juuuust closing in on 50% completed... but I was wondering if anyone else would like to jump on board?  I realize it's not something for everyone to knit... since not everyone has a yoga mat... but maybe for Christmas gifts?   Tongue

I'm using a wine/purple-red color for mine (it's a 50% acrylic, 50% cotton blend)... and I plan on using a thick white ribbon (what I have been tying my mat up with recently) as the drawstring.  I still haven't decided what I'm going to do about the strap yet, though.

Let me know if anyone feels inspired to join!!

Can we expand this to include other yoga mat bag patterns?  I would like to follow a pattern that is also called the namaste yoga bag that can use noro kureyon...here's the link:http://sixdegreesarts.blogspot.com/2007/10/namaste-yoga-mat-bag.html

it looks like a fun and easy pattern.

Absolutely, we can!!   Smiley

I was looking at something like that before my yoga teacher training started.  I had three days before class, and I was going to speed knit a super easy lace-y sort of bag, just for the first weekend.  I never ended up having the time though, so I just went with the one I'm knitting currently.

I accidentally scuffed up a cable row on my pattern.  I had to rip out six rows.  And when I picked up the stitches again, I realized that I picked them up all backwards.  So I had to untwist them as I re-knit a row... and so, needless to say... about three hours later... I had gotten "no where".

If you like cables you're going to absolutely die when you see this bag:  http://www.knottygirls.com/patterns/Kriya.pdf

It's dual colored cables which I have a bit of a hard time with...if you're new to cabling the first bag is definitely a better choice.

I just recently bought a mat and have had no time to actually try too much yoga....I was going to attempt learning from dvd's....wish I lived near you so I could join your class!

Ohhhh wow, that is beautiful!!  I have already started mine... but that one is gorgeous!  I have never worked with two colors before.  I've only been back into knitting for a few months, so I haven't attempted any color work or anything, yet.  But that looks like a great way to start!  I'm certainly going to add it to my favorites, and come back to it!  What a lovely idea.  Thanks for the link.

Starting yoga with DVDs can be a good way to do it.  It at least gets some knowledge base, and lets you gain a bit of confidence if you're nervous about going to a class for the first time.  But make sure you try all different kinds!  There's plenty of variety... and I always find it sad when someone looking for a slow, mindful practice starts out with a more athletic Ashtanga practice, and gets totally turned off from yoga entirely.  It's a beautiful thing if you can find the right niche for yourself!
