Hi,

I am a beginner knitter who'd like to knit her first sock.  I've been looking up the threads and sites and Silver's sock class tutorial seemed the clearest.

Toe-up socks on two circular needles.

Would anyone be interested in a knitalong?  I'm thinking of starting with a simple lace pattern and would love to have some company.

Thanks

PS: If you're an experienced knitter and just want to knit a pair of socks and keep an angst-ridden newbie company, that's fine too!!

I just wanted to pop in and say I taught myself from Silver's dpns sock tutorial, her instructions are really clear and make it easy, so I would highly recommend her tutorials to anyone who's been afraid to try socks so far...y'all should definitely give it a go!

Silver's Sock class is an amazing site. I've knit her cuff down on DPN's multiple time. It's easy to memorize and the site is well written. I won't be joining as my UFO's slowly building but I thought I should share my tale of success with silver's sock class Cheesy Good Luck but you won't need it Cheesy

I'd love to join, I'm scared of socks too.  I'd use dpn's but I need to get some sock yarn.

I am not joining in as I have made 6 pairs of socks using Silver's Dpn pattern.
I just wanted to say that if it wasn't for me finding her site I would of never made socks. Every other pattern that I say was written in some kind of sock language that I didn't understand. But Silver's was first grade reading!

I now feel as tho I am ready to move onto other sock patterns!

I hope you all stick with Silver's site and make it thru your first pair of socks!

Good luck!

Hola. (First post with pics- please tell me if I'm doing something wrong.) I am new to dpn's and had planned on learning to knit a sock this summer, so I set out to start Silver's class when I saw this post. But I need a little help. I'm not quite sure what I'm doing wrong. I'm not sure how to divide the stitches, so when starting the heel my first row ends up on the wrong side instead of the right side.  Huh If anyone has done this before, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have no clue what you're doing, wrong or right, but I love the color you're using.
I finally started on silver's dpn tute. I have cast on my stitches and finished my first round!

I've got about 1/4 " done on the first sock.  I'm only able to knit on it about an hour at the end of work.  I really like the way it's turning out.  I'm using a self stripping yarn in blues and browns, and I just love how it looks.  Only thing I'm concerned about is the fact that it looks kinda small, like maybe it will fit my 3 yo niece instead of me.  Cheesy Maybe it'll stretch!

Woo! I ended up frogging everything I had and redoing it up to the heel because of the confusion and some other mistakes. I figured out the problem and got the heel done, then... I finished my first sock! Thank you, Silver's sock class! I don't have a camera with me now, but I will post a picture of it soon. I used worsted weight yarn, and at first while doing the ribbing I thought it would be too small, too, but the sock fits my giant, size ten feet. Yes, I made some mistakes, and I don't like the yarn, but the sock is functional, so I'm happy. Grin

Congratulations! Are you going to make a second sock?

I've been looking at the top of my sock thinking it looked small too.  I'm glad to hear it turned out all right!

Thank you! Because I'm not fond of the yarn and I don't think I have enough left to make a second sock, the answer to that question is no. I think I might make a lighthouse cloth from the dishcloth knitalong for my mom with the leftovers, though. Good luck with your sock!

I can't believe I missed this thread! I am planning on knitting 1 pair per month until christmas. Unfortunately I am a chronic "one sock knitter" and I get bored after the first one. I am going to check out the "silver" site and perhaps I will join you! In the meanwhile I have 3 very lonely socks with no matches to work on.

Hey, mind if I join?  I've knit this pattern before (it's my fave), and I am currently working on a new pair. Is it ok to tag along?

I have finally finished my socks!  It took me forever, I had one almost done and the cuff was so tight no one in my entire family could get it on.  Embarrassed  so I frogged and swithched to bigger needles and viola!  Socks!!  I made them for my 12 y/o DD.  She asked for Ravenclaw colors.  She snatched them the second they came off the needles and has already worn them several times.  I'll post pics later tonight.
