I saw these video game cross-stitched pins and went, "hm."
http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=229259.0

some googling got me this fabric covered button tutorial:
http://howaboutorange.blogspot.com/2007/03/thumb-tack-tutorial.html

Thus:

back:

action! Mario leaps for the 1up life, but fails!

ed: shaky hands steadied! clearer photos up.

I used 3/4'' buttons and 3/4'' magnets underneath, and 22 count Aida cloth. Unfortunately, I didn't realize you should use 1 strand of floss with that high count of cloth, and I tried 2 (badly knotted) sprites before I gave up and did more googling.

Trying to center the pictures on the button covers was a pain, and I really needed more cloth to pull over the buttons than was suggested by the box's instructions. Hence, they aren't centered.

Had planned to make more, but I was frankly going cross-eyed between the sewing and counting pixels on my screen.

Time to scotch guard them.
